The short answer

Most Jacksonville households land in one of three bands.

The minimum is $75 per visit. Below are the actual shapes, with the addition written out, because a total you cannot check is not really a price.

Single-item jobs

These are the most common calls in Jacksonville and they are all one line.

  • Sofa out of a Murray Hill bungalow: $126.
  • Queen mattress: $103. With the box spring as a set: $143.
  • Standard refrigerator from an Arlington carport: $164.
  • Hot tub on a Julington Creek pool deck: $322.
  • Upright piano from a San Marco living room: $290.
  • 65-inch TV: $73.

One thing worth saying about the minimum. A countertop microwave is $30, but a visit bills at least $75, so a single microwave costs $75. If you are near the floor, add things - a bag of clothes at $35, a bicycle at $37, a patio chair at $30. The truck is coming either way.

One-room and one-space jobs

Bedroom, Mandarin. Queen mattress and box spring set $143 plus a standard bed frame $68. $143 + $68 = $211.

Laundry corner, Orange Park carport. Washer $133 plus dryer $128. $133 + $128 = $261.

Home office, San Marco. Standard desk $83, office chair $61, bookshelf $72, computer monitor $58. $83 + $61 + $72 + $58 = $274. A quarter truck is $241 and this fits, so book the quarter and save $33.

Screened lanai, Atlantic Beach. Patio table $89, six patio chairs (6 × $30 = $180), propane grill $71. $89 + $180 + $71 = $340. A 3/8 truck is $338 - book that.

Garage cold storage, Lakewood. Refrigerator $164 plus chest freezer $146. $164 + $146 = $310.

Whole-property jobs

Past a room, stop itemizing and use the ladder: $241 for 1/4, $338 for 3/8, $431 for 1/2, $513 for 5/8, $587 for 3/4, $661 for 7/8, $732 for a full truck.

  • Studio in Riverside, end of lease: typically a half truck, $431.
  • One-bedroom off Baymeadows: typically 5/8, $513.
  • Two-bedroom near Mayport Road on PCS orders: commonly a full truck, $732.
  • Three-bedroom estate in Ortega, fifty years of one family: two full loads. 2 × $732 = $1,464.

Those last two are the ones people underestimate most, and both for the same reason: with no basements here, the garage, the shed, the attic and the Florida room all have to go in the same truck as the bedrooms.

The seasonal Jacksonville jobs

Four job types that barely exist in other markets and are routine here:

  • Post-storm garage and patio. Warped plywood, split sandbags, a chest freezer of spoiled food after a multi-day outage. Usually $338 to $587, plus the freezer at $146 if it is going separately.
  • PCS turnover. Navy families rotating through Mayport and NAS Jax clear a house in two weeks every summer. Beds, patio furniture and the garage. Typically a half to a full truck, $431 to $732.
  • Beach rental turnover. Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Atlantic Beach landlords swapping out salt-and-sun-wrecked furniture. Often a lanai set plus a mattress set: $340 plus $143 = $483, or the half truck at $431 if it packs down.
  • Mildewed upholstery. A sofa that lived a couple of summers in an unconditioned garage is still just a sofa: $126.

The crossover rule

The single most useful thing on this page. Add your items up. If the total is above the next truck fraction, book the truck fraction.

Two examples from above: the San Marco office itemized at $274 against a $241 quarter truck, and the Atlantic Beach lanai itemized at $340 against a $338 3/8. In both cases the volume tier is cheaper and leaves space, so you can throw in the broken drying rack and the old cooler without a second thought.

What never changes the number

Because this is where surprises normally come from in this trade, and Jacksonville throws all of these at us constantly:
