From Mineral City to the PGA Tour
Ponte Vedra started out as “Mineral City” after titanium, zircon and rutile were found there in 1914. The National Lead Company took over in 1921 and the town was renamed Ponte Vedra in 1929. Today it is the home of the PGA Tour, and The Players has been played at TPC Sawgrass every year from 1982 on.
It’s in St. Johns County, where appliance pickups are arranged by calling county Solid Waste and residents can drop off at the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road transfer stations.
