Bed frame disposal in Jacksonville

The short answer

Prices include breaking the frame down on site, carrying it out from any floor, and disposal. Minimum $75 per visit, so a single $68 metal frame will bill $75 - worth pairing with the mattress or the nightstand while the truck is there.

Why there are three frame prices

Because they are genuinely three different jobs, and the difference is published rather than discovered on the day.

Standard, metal or platform - $68. A rail-and-hook metal frame, a simple slatted platform, a flat-pack base. Light, it comes apart in minutes, and it stacks flat in the truck.

Solid, upholstered or storage - $126 twin through queen, $152 king or Cal king. A solid-wood bed with a heavy headboard, an upholstered bed with a padded frame, or a storage bed with drawers built into the base. These are heavy, the joinery does not always want to come apart, and upholstered frames are bulky in the truck because you cannot flat-pack a padded panel. A storage bed with four drawers is closer to a dresser than a frame.

Adjustable bases - $118. Motorised bases have a steel frame, a motor, a control board and often a battery pack. They are heavy and they do not fold the way a metal frame does.

If you are not sure which yours is, the test is simple: if the headboard is fabric, or if the base has drawers, or if you cannot lift one end alone, it is not the $68 category.

You do not need to take it apart

People frequently spend an evening with an Allen key before we arrive. You do not need to - breakdown on site is inside the price, and we do it faster because we are not trying to preserve the fixings.

Two exceptions worth knowing:

• If the frame is already apart and stacked, say so, because it may pack smaller and change whether an item price or a truck fraction is cheaper for your load.
• If it is a solid-wood king or a storage bed in an upstairs room reached by a tight original staircase - which in Jacksonville means Springfield, Riverside and Avondale - tell us. It will come apart on the landing rather than in the doorway. It is a planning note, not a price change.

There is no charge for disassembly, no charge for stairs, and no charge for the exterior staircase on a beach duplex or a Baymeadows garden apartment.

Upholstered frames and Jacksonville humidity

Worth a section, because it is the reason a lot of these calls happen at all.

An upholstered bed frame is a large piece of fabric-covered foam in a bedroom, and in Northeast Florida that is a material that can fail. The specific pattern we see: a guest bedroom with the vent closed to save on cooling, a door kept shut, and a padded headboard against an exterior wall. The room's humidity runs higher than the rest of the house, and eighteen months later there is mildew spotting on the back of the headboard where nobody looks.

The same applies anywhere a frame has been stored rather than used: a garage, a carport, a shed, a Florida room. Those are not storage in Jacksonville, because air conditioning is what dehumidifies a Florida home and none of them have it. A disassembled upholstered bed stacked in a garage for a summer is usually finished.

Particleboard platform frames have a different failure: they swell at the joints and never recover. Once a flat-pack base has been damp, it will not go back together square.

Condition does not change the price. A mildewed upholstered king frame is $152, the same as a clean one.

Bunk beds, lofts and cribs

Bunk beds - $123, or $148 for solid wood or loft. Common in Jacksonville in two places: family homes out in Oakleaf, Argyle and Bartram Park, and beach rentals at Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach where a bunk room is how you sleep eight in a three-bedroom cottage. They come apart in sections. Lofts and solid-wood units are heavier and often bolted rather than pinned, hence the separate line.

Cribs - $67. Do not try to sell or donate an older crib. Federal safety standards for cribs changed substantially, and drop-side and older-design cribs cannot be legally resold; charities will not accept them either. It is not a condition question, it is a standards question, so go straight to disposal.

Daybeds - $89. Usually a metal or wood frame with a trundle underneath. Tell us if there is a trundle, since that is a second mattress at its own price.

The free routes, honestly

Frames fare slightly better than mattresses, which are refused essentially everywhere. But only slightly.

• Donation. A solid-wood frame in good condition with all its hardware is worth a call. The hardware is the sticking point - a frame missing rails or bolts is not usable and will be declined. Upholstered frames get screened for staining and mildew like any soft furnishing.
• Giving it away. Works, with the usual Duval County obstacle: the county is roughly 875 square miles and split by the St. Johns, so a free bed in Oceanway is not practically available to somebody at the beaches. Put the nearest main road and the side of the river in the listing, and photograph it disassembled so people can see it fits a car.
• Retailer haul-away. If a new bed is being delivered, ask at purchase. Crews will often take the old frame along with the old mattress, with the same conditions - accessible, and not visibly moldy.
• Curbside. In your scheduled window. Note that a mattress, a box spring and a frame may count as three items against a limit, not one bed. Check your city bulk-waste page.

Standard bedroom clear. Queen mattress and box spring set $143 plus a standard metal frame $68. $143 + $68 = $211.

King bedroom. King mattress $114, box spring $92, solid or upholstered king frame $152. $114 + $92 + $152 = $358. A 3/8 truck is $338 - book that instead.

Kids' room. Bunk bed $123 plus two twin mattresses (2 × $82 = $164). $123 + $164 = $287.

Nursery you have outgrown. Crib $67, baby gear $33, standard dresser $126. $67 + $33 + $126 = $226.

Adjustable base and mattress. $118 + $103 = $221.

Tell us the frame type, the size, and whether the mattress is going too. That is enough to fix the price. Photos help if it is a storage bed or an unusual solid-wood piece, and we will confirm the number in writing before anyone drives out.
